On September 25th, Kazan held a festive event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Republican Renaissance Foundation (“Vozrozhdenie”).

The ceremony was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev, Chairman of the Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Secretary-General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. Philanthropists, investors and contributors to the Foundation’s projects, heads of federal and republican departments and municipal leaders of Tatarstan were also among the invited guests.

In his speech, Mintimer Shaimiev, Tatarstan’s State Counselor, Chairman of the Republican Renaissance Foundation’s Board of Trustees and UNESCO Special Envoy for Intercultural Dialogue noted, “We have a historic mission to preserve our rich cultural heritage, enhance the centuries-old legacy of peace between our many ethnic groups and religions and pass this experience on to the younger generations. In the 100-year history of our Republic, we have introduced a new dimension to our traditional values of harmony and mutual understanding: that of a “Renaissance”. It is a renaissance of historical monuments, cultural traditions and, most importantly, a renaissance of spirituality.”

Rustam Minnikhanov presented the staff of the Foundation with a Certificate of Commendation of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan for their great contribution to the preservation and restoration of the historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Tatarstan. He added that the Foundation has become increasingly multifaceted, engaging in both archeology and the important issue of education.

The first president of Tatarstan expressed his gratitude to all those who had become benefactors and provided heartfelt assistance to the Foundation over the years. He stated, “Everyone involved felt the energy of time and the revival of our spirituality. By participating in the project, we have become kinder and better.” Shaimiev also noted that, “This unique work has been crowned with our common victory. The shrines of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex, the Assumption Cathedral and Monastery of the town-island of Sviyazhsk and the Complex of the Kazan Kremlin, have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List”.

“10 years ago, we could not have even imagined that we would be able to achieve such amazing results and that our work would be so interesting, profound and impactful. For 10 years we learned how to restore our monuments, enhancing them with new buildings and taking care of the people who live in Bolgar and Sviyazhsk,” said Tatyana Larionova, Executive Director of the Renaissance Foundation.

Speaking about the Foundation’s mission and their new projects , Mr. Shaimiev emphasized that, “By passing our invaluable heritage and spiritual values of faith, tradition and internal culture to the younger generations, we ensure that they are able to be preserved for the future. In the Republic, where 173 nationalities live side by side, it is extremely important to instill young people with an appreciation for the diversity of languages and cultures and their historical heritage, build upon it and focus on future development. “
