In addition to many remarkable dates, the outgoing year has been also marked by the 140th anniversary of Alexander Kuprin, who has a special place in the pantheon of famous Russian writers of the beginning of the XX century. The acknowledged master of the short story, author of excellent narratives, Kuprin created a vast and diverse picture of life in Russia of the time. The writer’s best works withstood the test of time with dignity. They contain the valuable things Ivan Bunin called “Kuprin’s blessing to the whole world”.
Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Eleonora Mitrofanova in connection with the 65th anniversary of the Organization told RIA Novosti about UNESCO’s achievements, challenges and plans, as well as about the level of its cooperation with Russia and other aspects of activities.
The Coordination Committee of UNESCO Chairs of the Russian Federation in cooperation with the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO and UNESCO Moscow Office organizes the International Conference of UNESCO Chairs “Education for Sustainable development and globalization: implementation of UNESCO Strategy for the Second Half of the Decade of ESD”. The Conference will be held in Moscow in the Russian Academy of the State Service on 7-8 December 2010
On November 2nd at UNESCO Headquarters for the first time there was a presentation of UNESCO medals “For contributions to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology”. By decision of the international jury the Medal of Honour was awarded to Russian Academician Jaures Alferov.
An International Forum on the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) of the CIS and Baltic States took place on November 22-24 in the capital of Tatarstan. It was attended by Secretaries General of National Commissions for UNESCO and National Project Coordinators from Azerbaijan, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Estonia, and the Russian Federation. The forum was also attended by Russian regional coordinators from St. Petersburg, Khanty-Mansiysk, Nizhny Tagil, Yakutsk, Reutov, Kazan, Ufa, and Novorossiysk.
