World Book day

April 23rd is #WorldBookAndCopyrightDay!

This day was established on April 23 in 1995 by the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris, honouring writers and their work, encouraging greater access to books & reading material.

When asked by Western journalists which books Sergey Lavrov would recommend for compulsory reading, including for foreigners and those in the Euro-Atlantic nations in particular, the Russian Minister recommended the following 4 novels:

• The White Guard by Mikhail Bulgakov
• Taras Bulba by Nikolai Gogol
• Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
• The Island of Crimea by Vasily Aksyonov
