Introduction by Tatiana Dovgalenko, Secretary General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO

Science nourishes the entire fabric of the Russian state. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the contribution science has made “to Russia’s becoming a civilizational state is truly invaluable.”

So is its contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda. The anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a UNESCO commemorative date. On December 13, 2023, outstanding chemists Irina Beletskaya (Russia) and Dr. Klaus Müllen (Germany) received the Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences in Moscow.

Science knows no boundaries and should not be held hostage to political differences. Sergey Lavrov, Chairman of the Commission of of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, also spoke about the harm of block logic and the divisive philosophy of “friend and foe.” Professional dialog at UNESCO is not only possible but also necessary to forge the “intellectual and moral solidarity of humanity.”

It is no easy task, but we won’t cease to tackle it. After all, the craftsmen of artistic forging from Gyumri get to reach incredible results of blacksmithing.

In this issue, we honor Zurab Tsereteli, the unsurpassed master of modern sculpture, a member of our Commission, who devoted his life to the service of art.

The UNESCO Framework for Culture and Arts Education was adopted in Abu Dhabi. The most important is to “sow the reasonable, the good, the eternal.” The same way the oldest children’s magazine on the planet Murzilka has been doing that for 100 years, and the idea the enthusiasts of the International Independent Literary Award Glagolitsa held in Kazan adhere to.

In the Museum of Moscow article, you can read about the continuity and multifariousness of our diverse capital: discover the richness of its architectural styles or taste the traditional domestic fermented milk products.

And doubt not, with its 300 years’ experience, our scientific school will bear a great many more fruit for both Russia and all mankind.
