Biography
Audrey Azoulay was born on August 4, 1972, in Paris. She graduated from Lancaster University (1993), Paris Dauphine University-PSL (1994), the Paris Institute of Political Studies (1996), and the National School of Administration (2000).
In 2000–2003, she worked in the Directorate-General for Media and Cultural Industries of the French Ministry of Culture. In 2003–2006, she was a speaker at the Chamber of Accounts of the Ile-de-France region. In 2006–2014, Deputy Director, Director of the National Centre of Cinematography and the Moving Image. In 2014–2016, she served as Culture Adviser to the President of the French Republic, and in 2016–2017, Minister of Culture and Communications of France.
In November 2017, during the 39th session of the UNESCO General Conference, she was elected to the post of Director-General of the Organization. On November 15, 2017, Audrey Azoulay assumed the post of Director-General of UNESCO for a four-year term. In November 2021, during the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference, she was re-elected to the post of Director-General for a second term.
She speaks French, English, and Spanish.
