UNESCO Educational Programs

At the invitation Of the Governor of the Ryazan region Nikolay Lyubimov the ancient city of Ryazan on November 27 2018 became the venue of the annual meeting of the coordinating Committee of UNESCO chairs. 

The meeting was attended by the Executive Secretary of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, Ambassador at Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Grigoriy  Ordzhonikidze, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Igor Ganshin, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations of the Ministry of Education of Russia Alexey. Yemelyanov, Academician of RAS (Russian Academy of Sciences) Alexander Chuchalin, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Alexandra Ochirova, the hero of Russia Michael Malakhov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Ryazan Region, Larisa Krokhaleva and the Minister of Education and Youth Policy of the region, Olga Shchetinkina. 

The participants reviewed the application for the creation of new UNESCO Chairs in four leading universities of the country – Ryazan State University Sergei. Yesenina (“Studies of the sociocultural environment of ancient cities”), Northern (Arctic) Federal University Michael Lomonosov (“Modern methods and technologies for preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the northern countries”), the Higher School of Economics (“Copyright and Artificial Intelligence”), as well as the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology – on the subject of the International Program UNESCO on basic sciences.

An important outcome of the Ryazan meeting was the creation of the Russian Committee on UNESCO Educational Programs. Rector of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia was elected its head Vladimir  Filippov. The structure and composition of the Committee were agreed, the tasks of which will include the analysis of Russian educational statistics, the collection of reports on the main indicators and, in general, coordination of the activities of the Russian Federation on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 concerning education and included in the Agenda Sustainable Development until 2030, adopted in September 2015 at the World Summit on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the United Nations in New York.

The successful work of the event was greatly facilitated by the coordinated work of the team of the Ryazan State University under the leadership of its rector Andrew  Minaev.
