The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, which is organized by the Russia Today news agency under the auspices of the Russian Committee for UNESCO, is accepting entries. The contest is named after Russia Today’s special photo correspondent, aged 33, who was killed in eastern Ukraine in August 2014 while carrying out an editorial assignment. The contest aims at supporting young people aspiring to master the art of photography and is open for participants aged between 18 and 34.

Entries can be submitted at www.stenincontest.ru from February 2 till April 15, 2015. The jury comprises leading representatives of the Russian and international photo community, including Olga Sviblova, director of the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, Yury Kozyrev, frequent winner and jury member of the World Press Photo contest, heads of photo departments of the Reuters and Associated Press news agencies Grigory Dukor and Denis Paquin, etc. The award ceremony will take place in Moscow on June 3, 2015.

“During his short creative life, Andrei Stenin added his own pages to the history of Russia, Moscow and the 21st century. He won prizes in the Silver Camera contest of photo stories about Moscow twice: in 2010, for the Manezhnaya Square series and in 2013, for the Parallel Worlds series. There is a saying about writers that goes “Not a day without a line.” Andrei Stenin took pictures every day and everywhere, looking for new topics and new ways of expressing them. The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, established by the Russia Today international news agency, is extremely important. It allows discovering new names, supports young talents and gives them a chance to implement new projects.

The contest raises the prestige of a photographer, gives us all the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of the young and preserves contemporary history for future generations,” says Olga Sviblova, member of the jury and director of the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow.

Entries for the contest are accepted in four main categories: “Breaking News,” “Contemporary Problems,” “Sport,” and “Everyday Life.” The jury will award prizes for the first three places in each category and also name a Grand Prix winner. The Grand Prix will be awarded by a majority of jury votes among the best entries to the contest in all categories. The prizes will be 50,000 roubles for the first place, 35,000 for the second and 25,000 for the third place in each nomination. The Grand Prix of 500,000 roubles will be given for the most interesting and outstanding work.

The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, initiated by Russia Today, aims at attracting the public attention to the objectives of photo journalism and supporting young photographers. It will give representatives of the global photo community the opportunity to discover new names in photo journalism, to maintain and enhance its high standards, develop quality criteria for the documentary photo in Russia and in the world. The Andrei Stenin contest will be held with information support of the Academy of Photography photo school, the Vesti.ru e-newspaper, jourdom.ru, the British Royal Photographic Society, RT, the Moscow Union of Journalists, the Tutto Digitale magazine, the Foto&Video magazine, the photo-study.ru photo education website, the YOJO.ru information portal for young journalists and the Foto.ru club.
